World Cup: England three bold predictions

England head to Russia without the usual pre-tournament hype

England are heading to Russia in really good form. Gareth Southgate’s side have not been beaten since June 2016, but nobody is getting carried away. England’s Group G opponents include Tunisia, Panama and a richly talented Belgium side.

Three bold predictions

Table Toppers

England will brush aside the challenges of Tunisia and Panama, winning both games 2-0. Belgium will have a shocker against England in the final group game. The Three Lions will run out 3-1 winners to top Group G. Their reward will be a second-round game against Poland.

De Ja Vu

Poland will head into their encounter with England full of confidence but dreams of making a World Cup quarterfinal against Brazil will fall short. Harry Kane will score a hat-trick, creating comparisons to Gary Lineker’s hat-trick against Poland at the Mexico 86 World Cup.

Quarter final jitters

A quarterfinal against Brazil will be the reward for England’s hard work. Despite impressing, Kane, Raheem Sterling and Dele Alli won’t have enough in the their locker to overcome Brazil. Neymar, Philippe Coutinho and Gabriel Jesus will torment England’s defence as Brazil edge the game 2-1.

Harry Kane can emulate Lineker at the World Cup
