Roglič and Froome are the men to beat on stage 20
60,000 fans will pack the Stade Vélodrome this afternoon to witness stage 20 of the Tour de France. Race leader, Chris Froome has a slender advantage of 23 seconds over Frenchman, Romain Bardet. Primož Roglič is the bookies favourite to win the Individual Time Trial. Roglič, currently with Lotto Jumbo won the Slovenian National Time Trial Championships in 2016. He is in good form, having won a stage at both the Giro d’Italia and this year’s Tour de France. Tony Martin is another contender for the stage victory. Rigoberto Uran is a useful Time Trialist, the Colombian is 29 seconds down on Froome. Uran has picked up 746 TT points through 2017.
Froome’s task is to register a time quicker than that of his rival GC contenders. Should he not win the stage, but go on to win the overall GC, he will become the seventh rider to have won the Tour de France without winning a single stage. This is Froome’s last chance to claim a stage victory, he will not win the sprint finish in Paris.
It will be a nervous stage for all those involved in the hunt for the yellow jersey. Riders and directeur sportifs will be praying that a mechanical issue or fall are avoided. The weather forecast is favourable, unlike the conditions the riders faced on stage one, Düsseldforf. The 22.5Km course features a 116m climb up Notre-Dame de la Garde.
