Carlos Carvalhal is looking to sign off Wednesday’s Portugal trip on a high
Sheffield Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal is relishing his side’s battle with Vitoria de Setubal this evening in Portugal, as the Owls look to bring their pre-season training camp to a close.
Carvalhal, who has led his side to three wins from four pre-season outings so far, enjoyed two separate stints as Vitoria boss. He guided the Portuguese outfit to promotion to the top flight of Portuguese football in the 2003/04 campaign before departing to join Belenenses. Carvalhal then returned to the Estadio do Bonfim for a second spell in charge of Vitoria and guided them to a sixth placed finish in the Portuguese top flight, the rewards were the qualification for what is now known as the Europa League.
Looking forward to a reunion with his old club, Carvalhal said:
“I enjoyed my time there. They were two seasons to remember.“It will be a nice to play against Vitoria. It is a club with a big charisma. The fans love the club and have a big passion for the team. It is a great club and I still follow their results closely because I have an emotional connection with them.”
Meanwhile, the Owls’ trip to Birmingham City in September will now take place on Wednesday, September 27 with a 7.45pm kick-off. The Championship clash was due to take place 24 hours earlier but it has now been pushed back because of Wednesday’s Steel City derby battle with Sheffield United on Sunday, September 24.
